Create Your Peaceful Heart Sanctuary

Updated: Sep 25

Hello Love,

I believe having a dedicated personal space where you can feel pure comfort and safety is an essential element to finding deep relaxation and inner peace. It doesn’t need to be an entire room—it can be a cozy chair in the corner, a little nook outside, or even your car. What matters is how it makes you feel when you’re there: safe, calm, and fully yourself.

I’ve created my own sanctuary in my little art studio. Of course, I paint there, but it’s also filled with string lights, succulents, candles, incense, and things that simply make me happy. The moment I step into this space, I feel myself exhale. It’s my reminder to pause and reconnect with peace. I even have a sign on the door that reads "Please be mindful of the energy you bring into this space."

And now I want to help you create a sanctuary of your own.

5 Steps to your Peaceful Heart Sanctuary

1. Choose Your Spot

Pick a place where you can step away from daily noise. It could be:

  • A whole room, if you have one to dedicate.

  • A small corner with a chair, blanket, or floor cushion.

  • Your patio, garden, or even under a favorite tree.

  • A spot in your car where you can sit, sip tea, and breathe before going inside.

Your sanctuary doesn’t have to be permanent or perfect, it just has to feel like yours.

2. Engage Your Senses

Aim to engage at least three of your five senses—and if you can include all five, that’s wonderful. The key is choosing what’s realistic for your space.

  • Smell: Light a candle or incense at home, or use essential oils and travel sprays on the go.

  • Sight: Add soft lighting, a plant, or something small and meaningful like a photo.

  • Touch: Keep a cozy blanket, pillow, or even a smooth stone you can hold.

  • Taste: Sip tea, coffee, or enjoy a little treat that brings comfort.

  • Listen: Play calming music, nature sounds, or simply notice the quiet around you.

No candles in the car, of course—but you can bring a travel diffuser, a playlist, or even a piece of chocolate for comfort. Small choices can make a big difference.

3. Weave in the Five Elements

Bringing nature into your space grounds and balances energy. And again, choose what’s realistic for your space.

  • Earth: Stones, crystals, potted plants, or even a small bowl of soil or sand.

  • Water: A fountain, a bowl of water, or a simple glass placed with intention.

  • Fire: A candle, string lights, or even sunlight streaming through the window.

  • Air: Open a window, hang a wind chime, or simply notice your breath.

  • Space: Allow openness; don’t overcrowd your area. Even a tiny sanctuary needs room to breathe.

4. Make It Yours

This is your safe place, so let it reflect you. Add items that make you feel grounded and joyful, like photos, a favorite book, affirmations, or a journal. Remember, there’s no “right” way.

5. Use It with Intention

Let this sanctuary become your reminder: whenever you enter, you’re signaling your mind and body that it’s time to pause, reflect, or create. Over time, your nervous system will naturally soften when you step inside this space.

Creating your Peaceful Heart Sanctuary is an act of self-love and compassion. It’s a physical reminder that you deserve rest, reflection, and peace, wherever you are.

Where will you create yours?

With Warmth & A Peaceful Heart,

Kari
